Algeria

Algeria are aiming for their second Olympic appearance to follow-up on their lone Olympic stint in the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, where they finished in 12th place. The Algerian men’s national team is a consistent top four contender in the African Championship, which they have won in 1991 and 1993. In the continental qualification for Rio 2016, Algeria finished third, behind winners Egypt and second-placers Tunisia.The Algerian men have competed in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in the 1994 and 1998 editions; when they had their best ever finish at 13th and 22nd place, respectively. Algeria only appeared once in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup in 1991, finishing in the 9th position.

Ikhedji Mouloud

Ikhedji Mouloud

Mouloud Ikhedji started playing in 1978 at MBB club, then played for Rija for two years before a wrist injury ended his playing career in 1988. When he finished his college degree, he coached professionally in the club level, with teams El Kseur and MBB from 1996 to 1999. He joined the national team as an assistant coach of the men’s team that played in the 1998 World Championship, Arab and African Championships, Pan-Arab Games and the Mediterranean Games among others. In March 2006, he took the reins of the women’s national team, which he steered to a gold medal finish in the African Games in 2007 and a silver place finish in the African Championship in 2009. Among his best coaching achievements is Algeria’s qualification to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the 2010 World Championship. After which, he resigned from the national team and returned to coaching club volleyball at MBB in 2011. Four years later, he was appointed as coach of the men’s national team after being an assistant a year earlier.
