Chile celebrates victory over Tunisia in opening day

Mexico City, Mexico, June 3, 2016- Chile surprised in opening day while taking down Tunisia by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-21) victory at the Men’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Mexico City at Gimnasio Olimpico Juan de la Barrera.

Chile’s victory was led by the performance of Vicente Parraguirre scoring 14 points on 13 kills and one ace. Dusan Bonacic and Tomas Parraguirre scored 13 points all in attacks. Miladi Ben Othmen and Hichem Kaabi topped Tunisia. Chile held advantage in attacks 43-37 and scored on 26 errors by Tunisia. 


Chile and Tunisia engaged in quick runs with both teams committing errors and keeping the score close in set one. The South American team went on improving led by Dusan Bonacic’s powerful spikes taking Tunisia by surprise and winning the first set 25-21. 


The Chilean hitters took on every opportunity to secure their advantage by keeping set two under control. Tunisia, on the other hand remained calm while leveling the actions to 11 all. Tomas and Vicente Parraguirre with Dusan Bonacic joined forces in the attack line for Chile’s 2-0 advantage. 

Chile continued to surprise Tunisia with an early 6-2 advantage in the third set. Coach Fethi Mkaouar was forced to ask for a technical time-out to advice his team, but despite Hichem Kaabi and Miladi Ben Othem’s efforts, Chile pushed further reaching a comfortable 12-7 advantage. Chile finally sealed while losing three match points 25-21.
